Revitalized Medvedev Claims First Title in 882 Days
Nineteen of the Russian's 21 titles have been won on hard courts
A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first trophy for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.
Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a difficult year, winning just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a setback at the US Open.
The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in especial - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.
Now working with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive win over challenger Moutet.
This marks his maiden championship after the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt from that period of that year.
The win also means he has won twenty-one championships at 21 distinct tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my children together, so to get a title is really nice," said tennis professional the champion.
"This victory is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his previous six finals, comprising in the German tournament previously this season.
Medvedev's defensive play style and recurring reactions on the tennis court had prompted commentators to question if his capacity to perform at the top level was over.
But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete positively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.
He fought back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five points to take the lead.
Both players traded service breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his first tour title, seized the initiative to create a final set.
The opponent saved 4 early-game break points in a tight third set before Medvedev broke to 15 to secure the win.
Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to control a return after a lengthy match.
